Independent feminist record label, Got Its Records, are proud to present the first ever release on the label, entitled '#gotits Volume 1.

The free compilation album consists of contributing artists who are pro-feminist and feel that the message of feminism needs to be heard.


Hi. I'm Cat and Got Its Records is my label. I come from a music background and work within the music industry. One day I thought 'Hey, why don't I set up my own record label that has an ethos that means something to me?'. And so I did.


Why is feminism is important to me?

1. Because, when I was growing up, I was always a tomboy and thought being boy-like meant that you were strong and girls were weak and needed to be taken care of. I though if you looked or acted feminine it meant you were weak.

What I now know: Strength and weakness is not gender specific. You can wear a floral dress and be an MMA fighter.

2. Because sexism still exists and, even now, I still experience it almost daily. If it's some man who thinks he has the right to say out loud 'Hello gorgeous' or 'hi sweetie', or people making sexist jokes but labelling as 'banter'. This is not okay. I want to go about my daily life without the fear of being harassed.

3. Because, apparently, girls shouldn't go out alone late at night. NO! We can do what the hell we want and not have to worry about getting raped or attacked.

4. Feminism is gender neutral. Many of my male friends are feminists and are baffled by the way women are still treated

5. I don't want to be judged on my body and looks, I want to be judged on my skill set and what I can deliver. Women, especially in the media, are always judge on how they look, what they're wearing and are completely criticised for how their bodes are. No one should tell us what we should look like. I have a brain.

This list could go on, but the most important thing I want this label to do is encourage others and tell them they can do what they want. I want to show them that they have the confidence to do something that matters to them, just like I have.
